13th IBCA World Chess Championships 2014 Katerini Greece

The 13th IBCA World Chess Championships were held in the hotel Mediterranean village Katerini Greece from May 5th till 14th 2014.

Players from 31 countries were present which is the highest nation representation at the championships in its history. With the defending Champion Yuri Meshkov present, as well as other top Russians such as the Junior World Champion Barbarykin, The standard of competition was very high indeed. This made for an exciting competition that was not decided until the last round. The worthy winner as Jacek Stachanczyk of Poland who displayed an outstanding degree of consistency throughout the tournament. In the final round he draw a very hard fought game with Oliver Mueller of Germany to win the title. Rustam Kasimov of Russia won the Bronze Medal with a win over Sergey Wassin of the Ukraine.

1st Jacek Stachanzyk Poland 7.5 points

3rd Rustam Kasimov Russia 7 points

The IBCA would like to thank the owners and staff of the Mediterranean Village hotel for wonderful hospitality and for an excellent venue to play chess.
